PIRIU, ALTIN (b 1981 )Altin Piriù was born in 1981 in the Albanian town of Fier, where he first took a diploma in violin. He followed this
with vocal training at the Tirana Conservatory, continuing in Bolzano with Vito Brunetti, who remains his teacher.
He was declared Best Young Singer at the Bologna Umberto Sacchetti Competition in 2001, and subsequent
awards and prizes include success in the Tito Schipa and Caruso Competitions. His first engagements took him to
Strasbourg and to the Rossini Festival at Wildbad. Shortly afterwards he made his début at the Rossini Festival in
Pesaro as Belfiore in Il viaggio a Reims, returning to take the rôle of Alí in Adina. In Bolzano he has appeared as
Paolino in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto and sang Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Rome Opera. He
made his début at the Tirana National Opera as Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, appearing in the same
role at the Vienna State Opera, when he was awarded the Eberhard Wächter Medal for his performance.
