NOFERINI, ANDREA

Andrea Noferini, cello

The cellist Andrea Noferini was born into a musical family and studied in Brussels under the great violinist Arthur Grumiaux. He completed his studies under Rocco Filippini at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatorio in Milan in 1987, continuing his studies with Antonio Janigro and in courses with Paul Tortelier, Yo-Yo Ma and André Navarra. Successful in various national and international competitions, including those in Pretoria, Palermo, Carpi, Florian in Venezia, Calpurnia at Città di Castello, with an award from the Milan Rotary Club as best young concert artist, he has appeared as a soloist with orchestras throughout Italy, as well as in recitals at leading festivals and in major concert venues throughout Europe. He serves as principal cellist at the Rome Teatro dell’Opera and plays a 1759 instrument by Tomaso Balestrieri, alternating this with a fine cello by Stefano Scarampella, made in 1909. In 1997 he was awarded the Bologna Nettuno d’Oro prize as the best artist of the year.
