POLO, ASIER

The cellist Asier Polo was born in Bilbao and studied there at the Conservatorio Superior de Música with Elisa Pascu, taking first prizes in cello and in chamber music in the Concursos Nacionales de Juventudes Musicales in 1987 and 1989. He subsequently studied with Maria Kliegel at the Cologne Musikhochschule, at the Escuela Reina Sofía in Madrid, and with Iván Monighetti at the Basel Music Academy. He studied chamber music with the Amadeus Quartet and with members of the Cuarteto Italiano, and partcipated in master-classes with Natalia Gutman and Mstislav Rostropovich. His career has brought appearances as a recitalist, as a soloist with major orchestras under distinguished conductors throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia, and in collaboration with highly acclaimed musicians, including Nicolás Chumachenco, Agustín León Ara, Maria Kliegel, and Alfredo Kraus, who invited him in the final years of his life to appear as a soloist in his concerts.
