ALCEDO, CELIA

Celia Alcedo was born at Santurce in Vizcaya, where she began her studies of voice and piano, before moving to Madrid. She was awarded the Premio Extraordinario on completion of her studies at the Conservatorio Provincial de Guadalajara and distinction at the Real Conservatorio de Música in Madrid. She completed her studies with master-courses in Spain, Italy and Germany. In 2001 she received an award from the Juventudes Musicales de Barcelona at the Lieder Course of Wolfram Rieger, and in 2002 took second prize in the first Concurso Internacional Joaquín Rodrigo, with first prize as best Spanish participant and the prize for the most popular performer. She has performed in numerous oratorios, Baroque opera, zarzuelas and recitals in various theatres and national and international festivals. Her interest in Baroque music has brought association with the Capilla Real de Madrid, the Grupo Vocal Sebastiaán Durón, Zarabanda or La Folía. She has given recitals of twentieth-century Spanish music in Morocco for the Cervantes Institute and in December 1998 gave a private recital at the Royal Palace in Oslo for the Norwegian royal family.
