GLENNIE, EVELYN (b 1965 )

Evelyn Glennie is one of the world's most groundbreaking and eclectic musicians. The first person ever to sustain a full-time career as a solo percussionist, she continues to redefine the goals and expectations of percussion and its perception in the eyes and ears of the public. She gives over a hundred performances a year world-wide, has commissioned over 135 works for solo percussion, and has an impressive discography which includes twenty solo albums, two of which have won Grammy Awards, DVDs, books, and mallets. She is a BAFTA winning Film/TV composer and has released an award winning cinematic film called Touch the Sound. Other interests include international motivational speaking and her own jewellery designs. In 1993 she was awarded an OBE for her services to music, and to date has received no less than seventy international awards.
