SAMANN, GERLINDE (b 1969 )The blind soprano Gerlinde Sämann was born in Nuremberg in 1969 and studied piano and singing at the Munich Richard Strauss Conservatory. Her wide repertoire ranges from early music to the avant-garde and contemporary music theatre. In 1999 she appeared at the Schloss Rheinsberg Opera Festival in Poulenc’s La voix humaine, and has collaborated with the Dresden Kreuzchor, the Choeur de Chambre Accentus, Estampie, the Austrian Armonico Tributo and other ensembles. In 2002/2003 she appeared in a staged version of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at the Zurich Theater Neumarkt, a production seen also in St Petersburg and Moscow. She has sung in Bach cantatas with La Petite Bande under Sigiswald Kuijken and in 2004 sang the rôle of Eurydice in Gluck’s opera. She has collaborated in many recordings and broadcasts.
