AGUILAR, HECTOR CORPUS

Born in the Philippines, Hector Corpus Aguilar started playing the violin at the age of ten. When he was fifteen he was offered a scholarship to study at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. While there, he won the Concerto Competition two years in succession and in his final year was invited to be soloist with the Interlochen Orchestra in Chicago’s Orchestra Hall. He was given the Young Artists Award for Excellence in Music when he graduated. After a two-year stint at the Cleveland Institute of Music, he moved to Philadelpia to continue studying with Linda Cerone and later with Jascha Brodsky at the New School of Music. He joined the Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia in 1984, and frequently performed with them as a soloist, also appearing on television and radio on several occasions. He was concertmaster of the Colorado Philharmonic in 1984 and 1985. Other solo activities included performances with the Manila Symphony, the Bach Orchestra of Philadelphia, and the Philly Pops. He has played recitals in Washington DC., Los Angeles, Dallas, Philadelphia, and given numerous concerts in Manila. In 1991 he moved to Oviedo, in Spain, where he is currently principal second violin of the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, with which he has also appeared as a soloist. He is also a member of the Cuarteto Divertimento, with festival appearances in Spain and concerts in Ecuador.
