HUNGARIAN STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA The Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra was established in 1923 as the Budapest Municipal Orchestra, and re-organized after the Second World War, assuming its present name in 1949. From 1952 it was under the direction of its general music director János Ferencsik, with state recognition of its place in cultural life granted in 1955. The orchestra has played under conductors of the greatest international distinction and has won significant success on its many foreign tours throughout Europe, to the United States, the Far East and Australia. Its work has met still wider acclaim through its many recordings.
