CRYER, JAMES

James Cryer was educated at St Paul’s School where he was a music scholar. He was taught the organ by Richard Popplewell at the Chapel Royal, and won the Dixon prize for improvisation at F.R.C.O. He went on to become organ scholar at Westminster Abbey under Simon Preston, and then at St John’s College, Cambridge, under George Guest. He has appeared as soloist with the English Chamber Orchestra and The London Soloists playing Handel Organ Concertos. He has been assistant organist at The Queen’s Chapel of the Savoy under Philip Berg and has also played at St James’s Palace, Hampton Court Palace, and at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. He combines piano and organ playing. He has studied the piano with Patricia Carroll, and has a long and successful duo partnership with John Bradbury with whom he has given many concerts.
