SUASTE, JESUS

The interpretative quality of his performances and the variety of his repertoire have won Jesús Suaste a particular place in the musical life of Mexico. He studied sociology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and his musical training was at the National School of Music of the same university. His first appearance as a soloist was in 1986 in Bach’s Magnificat, the beginning of a career that has brought performances in the concert hall and the opera house. His achievements have been recognised by national and international awards, with first prize in the First Francisco Araiza Song Contest, the award of the Mexican Union of Theatre and Music Critics as the most outstanding singer of the year in April 1990, and the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Prize in the First International Alfredo Kraus Singing Contest in the same year. He completed his professional studies at the Israel Vocal Arts Institute, studying with Joan Dorenmann, Louis Quilico and Renata Scotto.
