LENEHAN, JOHN John Lenehan has earned an international reputation both for his work as solo pianist and with leading chamber music groups of his generation. Together with such well-known musicians as Nigel Kennedy and Julian Lloyd Webber he has appeared in major concert venues around the world and has been a frequent broadcaster and recording artist. John Lenehan’s solo performances have received an extremely enthusiastic response from the critics and, reviewing his London recital of works by the French virtuoso composer Charles Valentin Alkan, The Times remarked “John Lenehan’s masterly recital rightly drew gasps and cheers”. As a soloist he has made many appearances with British Orchestras and his innovative recital programmes often include film projection and jazz repertoire, and his recitals show a refreshingly wide range of repertoire often including music in a lighter vein.
John Lenehan has made more than fifty CDs for various labels, among his recent recordings has been a disc of music by Erik Satie . For Sony/BMG he recorded piano music by Philip Glass and Scott Joplin. Other solo recordings include a disc of Erik Satie, John Ireland's complete piano music (Naxos 8.553700 and 8.553889) and a Gramophone award winning recording of Michael Nyman's Piano Concerto with the Ulster Orchestra (Naxos 8.554168).
