KETILSSON, JON

Jon Ketilsson, tenor. Born in Iceland. After graduating with a business degree he began taking singing lessons, and in 1988 he concluded his training as a singer. Further studies at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna in 1990-93. In 1993 Jon Ketilsson made his opera debut as Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata at the State Opera in Prague. Since then Jon Ketilsson has been a regular guest singer at several European opera houses: Operahaus Köln, Stadttheater Darmstadt, Stadttheater Hildesheim as well as the operas in Lausanne, Dortmund, Frankfurt and Duisburg, to mention just a few. Jon Ketilsson’s roles have included Rodolpho in Puccini’s La Bohème, Max in Weber’s Der Freischütz, Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca, Erik in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman and Bacchus in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos.
