SCHMIDT, JULLA

Julla Schmidt was born in Munich in 1981. She had her initial vocal training at the Bavarian Singing Academy with Tanja d’Althann, also studying there stage settings as a maker of masks and costumes. Her studies then took her to the Munich Conservatory, where she studied singing with Frieder Lang and historical performance practice with Michael Eberth and Hartwig Groth, followed by study at the Trossinger Institut für Alte Musik, singing with Richard Wistreich and Christian Hilz and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig, where she was a pupil of Elvira Dreßen. In 2004 she founded, with three colleagues, the Ensemble Santenay (flute, fiddle, lute, singer and organetto), specialising in music of the Middle Ages and Early Renaissance, under the supervision of Kees Boeke of the Trossingen Musikhochschule.

Julla Schmidt enjoys a freelance career as a singer of early music, collaborating with various ensembles. She is also involved in the design and collection of historical costumes.
