SIMONCINI, LUCA

Luca Simoncini graduated with first-class honours from Parma’s Arrigo Boito Conservatory, under the supervision of Franco Rossi, who also taught him chamber music at the Florence Conservatory. As a student, Simoncini won first prize at the Vittorio Veneto Cello Competition and the Pescara Accademia Musicale’s overall first prize. During the same period he was also invited to take part in such events as the Venice Musicanalisi, with Baldovino; the Trieste and Asolo Spring Seminars (presided over by Maestro Meunier and Carlo Zecchi); and the Biennale Musica 80 at La Fenice, Venice. He also appeared in Luigi Fait’s TV film for RAI, A Concert for Tomorrow. As a soloist, Simoncini has worked with I Solisti Veneti and I Nuovi Virtuosi di Roma, touring Europe and Japan. In 1985, along with Paolo Borciani, Elisa Pegreffi and Tommaso Poggi, he performed Bach’s Art of Fugue at various Italian venues, including La Scala, Milan. He has served as a jury member for several national and international competitions (Vittorio Veneto, Verona, etc.). Since 1980 he has been Cello Professor at the Venezze Conservatory in Rovigo, as well as being regularly invited to give masterclasses in cello and chamber music in places such as Fivizzano, Treviso, Asolo, Saluzzo and Gorizia. Luca Simoncini plays a Gregorio Antoniazzi cello of 1737, formerly owned by Gaspar Cassadó.
