BARRICK, MELISSA

The soprano Melisa Barrick has appeared as a soloist and recitalist throughout the United States and Western Europe. Before beginning her professional career, she was a finalist in, and winner of, several National and International competitions, including the MacAllister Young Singer Competition, Homer Ulrich Performance competition, and the Psi Iota Xi Award. Before moving to Knoxville, Tennessee, with her husband, violoncellist Wesley Baldwin, she was an active performer of early and new music in the Baltimore/Washington area. She has broadcast nationally on NPR’s Performance Today with the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic, appeared as Amore at the Smithsonian in L’incoronazione di Poppea, and for five years was the soprano soloist with the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble, with whom she was regularly broadcast on Baltimore Public Radio. She has also given première performances of works by composer George Wright, and by P. Kellach Waddle, who wrote his Danielewski Serenade for her and her husband. Melisa Barrick has been on the performance faculty of the Hot Springs Music Festival and the Mid-America Chamber Players, a guest artist at the Sewanee Festival, and is a resident artist of the Michigan City Chamber Music Festival.
