ISAKOV, NIKO

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1960, the baritone Niko Isakov graduated from the Vocal Faculty of the Academy of Music in Sofia in 1989 as a pupil of the famous baritone Sabin Markov. In the same year he made his début as Marcello in Puccini's La Bohème at the opera house in Cairo. He is a soloist of Sofia Opera where he performs all major baritone rôles. As a soloist there he has had the honour to be a partner of the great Bulgarian singers Nicolai Ghiaurov, Ghena Dimitrova, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, and Nicola Ghiuzelev, among others. He has sung in various opera houses all over the world, in Egypt, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Malta, Japan and the former Yugoslavia. He has worked with many distinguished conductors and since 1997 has served as a professor at the Sofia State Academy of Music.
