GABRILOVICH, OSSIP (1878 - 1936)

Ossip Gabrilowitsch (1878-1936), was an extraordinary pianist and composer. He studied piano with Anton Rubinstein and Theodore Leschetizky, and composition with Lyadov and Glazunov. Gabrilowitsch recorded the Bourrée, among his favourite encore pieces, in New York in 1925 but the recording was never commercially released during his lifetime. Played with verve and joy, the Bourrée comes alive in Gabrilowitsch’s performance.
