ACCURSO, ROBERTO Born in Catania, Roberto Accurso studied in Milan with Carla Castellani. In 1993 he won the International Competition at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale “A. Belli” in Spoleto, where he attended the master-classes of Mietta Sighele, with whom he is currently studying. In the same year he made his début in Spoleto as Escamillo in La Tragédie de Carmen, a new version of the opera by Bizet produced by Peter Brook and Marius Constant. Since then he has been invited by all the major Italian opera houses, collaborating with many distinguished conductors, and has also performed regularly at the Festival dei due Mondi in Spoleto and in Modena, Verona, Treviso, Rovigo, Cosenza, Livorno, Ascoli and Lugo. His most recent appearances include La straniera (Catania), Madama Butterfly and A Village Romeo and Juliet (Cagliari), Il barbiere di Siviglia (Bologna), Carmen (Verona), La Bohème (Munich), Macbeth (Amsterdam), and La vita nuova (Frankfurt). He recently took part in a recording of Pagliacci, with Andrea Bocelli, for the Decca label.
