DUNN, TERI The soprano Teri Dunn has been described as “outstanding” by the BBC Music Magazine. She is equally admired for her natural feeling for early music, and for her daring approach to the avant-garde works of today’s leading composers. Originally from Ottawa, the Canadian soprano Teri Dunn holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Toronto, where she studied with Mary Morrison. She was a prizewinner in the 1999 Eckhardt-Grammatté Competition, and brings a wide expressive palette to her oratorio appearances, ranging from Bach’s St Matthew Passion to Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
As a chamber music performer, she has scored triumphs in the performance of several Bach cantatas, and numerous contemporary works, including George Crumb’s Ancient Voices of Children. On the operatic stage she has appeared as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Galatea in Handel’s Acis and Galatea.
Teri Dunn has performed with some of Canada’s finest ensembles, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, the Bach Consort, Opera in Concert, Exultate Chamber Singers, New Music Concerts, the Guelph Spring Festival, and the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival. She is heard frequently on CBC Radio, and her discography includes several recordings for Centrediscs (Canadian Music Centre) and for Naxos.
She is also an active conductor, coach and voice teacher. A winner of the Leslie Bell Prize in Choral Conducting, she is on the Faculty of the Royal Conservatory of Music and is a member of the Artistic Staff of the Toronto Children’s Chorus.
