VALENCIAN COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA

Lorin Maazel (Music Director)

The Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana was created in 2006 as a musical ambassador for the region, with the essential task of collaborating in the opera season of the Palau de les Arts, although its functions also include developing symphonic repertoire and chamber music. Lorin Maazel is the permanent conductor and has been involved from the very beginning in the creation of the orchestra, establishing an ensemble that can tackle the most demanding symphonic and operatic challenges. Valencian repertoire is well represented in the orchestral repertoire, with works by César Cano, Ruperto Chapí, Oscar Esplá and Vicente Martín y Soler, among others. From the beginning the orchestra has been closely associated also with Zubin Mehta. In addition to the normal activities of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana in the Palau de les Arts Reína Sofia, there are plans for concert tours abroad and to other parts of Spain.
