CHUANG, YA-FEI Prizewinner in the Cologne International Piano Competition at the age of eighteen, the pianist Ya-Fei Chuang first performed on television in her native Taiwan at the age of eight and gave her first public recital when she was nine At ten she won first prize in the nationally televised Genius vs. Genius Competition and at eleven took first prize at the Taiwan National Competition. She went on to study at the Freiburg Musikhochschule with Rosa Sabater and Robert Levin, with awards including the Freiburg Mendelssohn Prize. She concluded her German studies with Pavel Gililov at the Cologne Musikhochschule. In 1993 she moved to the United States, taking a graduate diploma at the New England Conservatory in Boston with Russell Sherman. Ya-Fei Chuang has appeared at festivals in Europe and the United States and appeared in major concert halls as a soloist and in collaboration with distinguished colleagues in chamber music and duo recitals.
