YANG, TIANWA (b 1987 )Tianwa Yang was born in 1987 in Peking, and started studying violin at the age of four. Success quickly followed when she won six out of the seven violin competitions she entered. At the age of eleven she had already received many invitations for solo recitals as well as for concerts with orchestras. Media in Hong Kong described her “a pride of China”, while international masters such as Isaac Stern praised her talent and invited her to the USA. In 2004 Tianwa Yang was awarded the prize as best young violinist in China by Seiji Ozawa. She is the youngest interpreter worldwide of the 24 caprices of Paganini, having recorded them at the age of 13.
Her Europe debut was in 2001 in Prague, where she played the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Czech Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra. In 2003 she played the Violin Concerto No. 2 of Prokofiev in the Munich National Theater with the orchestra of Bavarian State Opera (Bayerische Staatsoper).
In 2005 Tianwa Yang was awarded a special two-year scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to study chamber music in Germany. She receives inputs from Lin Yaoji, Jörg-Wolfgang Jahn, Heinrich Schiff, Antje Weithaas as well as from Anner Bylsma for baroque music. She was awarded the “PRIX MONTBLANC 2006”.
During the 2007/2008 season she performed, among others, the following concerts: “Debüt im Deutschlandradio” in the “Berliner Philharmonie”, a Radio France live broadcasting concert in Montpellier Festival, a SWR live-broadcasting concert of her recital in Schwetzinger Festspiele; solo concerts in London (Wigmore Hall), Paris (Theatre du Châtelet), Berlin (Konzerthaus), Hamburg (Musikhalle), Bonn (Beethovenhalle), Stuttgart (Liederhalle), Munich (Herkulessaal) and elsewhere.
During the 2008/2009 season she debuts with Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, and others. She will also perform in concerts of the “Hessischer Rundfunk”, (Germany), Teatro Comunale di Ferrara (Italy) and tours through Australia, Germany and China.
Tianwa Yang is recording the complete works of Sarasate for the Naxos (7 CDs).
