The Thousand and One Lives of Ute Lemper

The singer, actress and entertainer Ute Lemper is one of the few German stars to have won international recognition. Her talent was discovered early on, and at the age of nine she began her first lessons in piano, singing and ballet. By 15 the young Ute Lemper had appeared as a jazz singer in Munich and founded the Panama Drive Band. She received a thorough training at the renowned Max-Reinhardt seminar in Vienna, and made her stage debut in Vienna in 1983. Her international career quickly took off after this, and she performed in Milan, Berlin, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, Jerusalem and London. In 1990 she visited a music studio for the first time to record songs from her wide-ranging and diverse repertoire. Ute Lemper's many artistic gifts also include her paintings, which she has exhibited in Paris and Hamburg. Despite all these activities, stage work remains the prime focus of her interest.
