The 1998 "jazzopen" music festival culminated in an evening for Joachim-Ernst Berendt, the title of whose book Die Welt ist Klang ("The world is sound") accurately sums up the festival's programmatic approach and was therefore taken as its motto. In collaboration with this "High Priest of Jazz" - who was 76 at the time and has since died - a program was put together which united some of the most talented musicians, capable of conveying on stage Berendt's universality of musical understanding.
Preserved for us on a DVD of outstanding quality, this live recording, 'best of "jazzopen" - from the "jazzopen" music festival's final concert on 19 July 1998 in the Hegel room of the "Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Liederhalle" ("Liederhalle cultural and conference center"), Stuttgart - brings together highlights of live concert performances by top stars of the contemporary jazz scene, allowing us to relive an extraordinary musical event.
