- This programme is not only a recording of an opera gala with an all-star cast. It is a historical document of a concert evening, which brings together eleven of the greatest opera-voices, with a superb programme of famous arias from Italian, Russian and German operas performed in one of the world's oldest and most prestigious opera houses – Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre. The evening is hosted by no less than the Spanish star tenor José Carreras.
- Highlights of the gala include Lucia Aliberti singing Vincenzo Bellini's 'Ah se una volta sola' from La Sonnambula, and Alan Titus as Leoncavallo's Tonio from his masterpiece Pagliacci. Hermann Prey also featured, singing 'Lied an den Abendstern' from Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser.
- Exclusive and for the first time, the complete gala concert, including two rare and extraordinary interpretations of Russian arias from Mussorgsky and Borodin, is now released on DVD by Arthaus Musik.
