From Die Brücke (The Bridge) to Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) the authors trace the Expressionism in Germany during the early 20th century. Among others, they showcase the key works of a North German oddball, a Bavarian animal lover and a man who had in fact dissociated himself from the Expressionists, but who could not escape their influence.
