BRUCKNER, A.: Symphony No. 1 (orig. 1866 unrevised Linz version) / Symphony No. 3: II. Adagio (1876) (Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Tintner)
This is the first recording of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 1 as it was copied out in 1866 and played at its première, conducted by the composer, in 1868. The score was prepared for this recording by William Carragan, a contributing editor of the Bruckner Collected Edition, using Robert Haas’s critical report of 1935 as the basis. The usual “Linz version” is actually a revision dating from 1877, and this recording of the symphony as it was eleven years earlier includes a number of interesting variants, particularly in the finale.
