Silvestre Revueltas’ compositions show great originality of inspiration, together with complete technical mastery. His best known work, the epically proportioned La Noche des los Mayas (‘The Night of the Mayas’) is one of a number of scores written for the cinema. La coronela (‘The Girl Colonel’) is an unfinished ballet heard on this recording in an orchestral version by Eduardo Hernández Moncada with additional music, arranged by Limantour, from two film scores, Vámonos con Pancho Villa! (‘Let’s go with Pancho Villa’) and Los de abajo (‘Those below’) that Revueltas composed on the subject of the Mexican Revolution.
