PENDERECKI: Sextet / Clarinet Quartet / Cello Divertimento
Chamber music has featured intermittently in the output of the Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki. Although he is most notorious for his avant garde works of the 1960s, his later music is a great deal more approachable, but throughout his career he has created music of undeniably powerful expression. The present disc features two of the most significant recent chamber works – including the impressive Sextet – as well as several shorter pieces from either end of the composer’s career, which place Penderecki’s approach to instrumental writing in context.
