The American writer and composer Paul Bowles spent much of his life in Morocco. He is primarily remembered for his novel The Sheltering Sky but also excelled as a composer in many forms. His piano music spans an impressive variety of styles and reflects his wide cultural interests. Among his most celebrated works is the brilliant, cornucopian Night Waltz.
