MACKEY: Redline Tango / MOWER: Flute Concerto / PANN: Slalom |
Redline Tango launches the new line of Naxos recordings, Wind Band Classics. With a rich history, the wind band is the ensemble of the future eagerly embracing new composers. The medium’s flexibility and potential for limitless color are explored in this recording of new works. The cool Slalom and hot Redline Tango serve as bookends while presenting two gifted young American composers. Ives scholar Jonathan Elkus paints The Alcotts in an imaginative fashion, while Michael Mower’s Concerto fuses classical, jazz and pop idioms. The philosophic and introspective Were You There? rounds out this recording of inventive new compositions for wind band.
