This lost gem with music by Edouard-Marie-Ernest Delvedez and Ludwig Minkus is here performed with Joseph Mazilier's original 1846 choreography, painstakingly researched and recreated by French choreographer Pierre Lacotte and spectacularly performed by members of the Opera National de Paris.
Lacotte's view is simple: "When you re-stage the ballets of the great French choreographers ¡K you must respect their work and keep the original atmosphere. Above all, the style of the period must not be lost."
Starting with Mazilier's two acts the ballet ends in a blaze of glory with Petipa's entertainment, a firework display of pas d'ecole. The music has been revised and orchestrated by David Coleman, whilst Luisa Spinatelli, drawing inspiration from the original models made for the work's creation, has conceived new sets and costumes.
