“An exhilarating Beethoven Seventh characterised
by glossy strings and sprightly wind solos, while Kolja Blacher plays with
exquisite tone in the Romances”
--BBC Music Magazine
A re-release for this newly repackaged title,
in which Abbado commands a supreme performance from the performers.
The 1996 concert began in honour of their Russian hosts
with popular highlights from Prokoviev’s Romeo and Juliet and the
Cavatina from Sergei Rachmaninov’s Aleko. The second part of the
concert features Beethoven’s Violin Romances, with Kolja Blacher leading
the orchestra to an enthusiastic reception from the audience, and the Seventh
Symphony.
