  • Just a few months after its premiere in February 2005, TDK presents the Vienna State Opera’s outstandingly cast new production of Werther on DVD, staged by internationally sought-after Rumanian director, Andrei Serban
  • The Argentinian tenor Marcelo Alvarez, took the title role, with his Charlotte on this occasion the young Latvian mezzo-soprano and rising star Elina Garana.
  • Serban sets the production in the stiff, claustrophobic atmosphere of a small town in the 1950s, with a simple set ┬íV a huge, single tree dominates the entire stage.
  • This DVD also includes a 12-minute bonus programme, called Prior to opening night - Marcelo Alvarez and Elina Garan?a at the Vienna Opera Ball, including footage of the two singing duets at the ball, as well as interviews with the cast and director about the production.
