- “Bruckner was
the composer who was closest to Wand’s heart and who drew from him his noblest
achievements. … The playing is as always fabulous, with the brass section
covering itself with glory, above all in the climax of the slow movement… The
Scherzo is enormously emphatic, and I wouldn’t have been surprised to see the
87-year-old breaking into a dance on the podium, which he almost does.” International Record Review
- Günter Wand
(1912-2002) made an imperative contribution not only to our understanding of
Bruckner but also to that of Schubert as a symphonist. Both composers were
particularly close to his heart and his international breakthrough came – late
in his life - with his highly-acclaimed Bruckner and Schubert recordings
1974-81.
- This final issue
in the TDK Günter Wand Edition – the eighth single release – brings us a
ravishing performance of Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony from the Lübeck
Music and Congress Hall in 1999.
