  • A 1987 Freiburg concert from probably the longest-lived jazz group in the world
  • MJQ recorded and performed on and off from 1952 up until 1995. The last surviving member of the Modern Jazz Quartet, Percy Heath, sadly died in 2005.
  • John Lewis perfected the art of integrating elements of classical style, even inserting jazz content into apparently jazz-remote forms like fugue, without sacrificing his deep rootedness in the Afro-American tradition.
  • Django, his "requiem" for Django Reinhardt featured on this DVD and probably his best-known number, is closer to a baroque largo than to gypsy swing and at the same time conveys deep blues, while his familiarity with Bach is evident in his suite A Day in Dubrovnik.
