MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY MUSICAL SOCIETY CHORAL UNION
Michigan University Musical
Society Choral Union
Throughout its 125-year history, the UMS Choral Union has performed with many
of the worlds distinguished orchestras and conductors. Based in Ann Arbor under
the aegis of the University Musical Society, the 150-voice Choral Union is known
for its definitive performances of large-scale works for chorus and orcherstra.
Participation in the Choral Union remains open to all by audition. Composed
of singers from Michigan, Ohio and Canada, members of the Choral Union share
one common passion a love of the choral art. Eleven years ago, the Choral
Union further enriched its long tradition when it began appearing regularly
with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in performances of Stravinskys Symphony
of Psalms, John Adams' Harmonium, Beethovens Symphony No. 9,
Orffs Carmina Burana, Ravels Daphnis et Chloé and Brahms Ein
deutsches Requiem and has recorded Tchaikovskys The Snow Maiden with
the orchestra for Chandos.
