SAO CARLOS NATIONAL THEATRE CHORUS São Carlos National Theatre Chorus
The Chorus of the São Carlos National Theatre was founded in
1943, soon acquiring a wide operatic and oratorio repertoire and between 1962
and 1975 collaborating with the Companbia Portugesa de Ópera based at the Teatro
da Trindade. The chorus became fully professional in 1983 and from 1985, with
the appointment of Gianni Beltrami as chorus-master, trios embarked on an ambitious
operatic and concert repertoire. Gianni Beltrami was succeeded, after his premature
death, by the present Musical Director, João Paulo Santos, under whose guidance
the Chorus has developed an even more comprehensive repertoire both in the theatre
and the concert-hall, collaborating with leading international conductors of
distinction
