PONCHIELLI, AMILCARE  

(1834 - 1886)

Ponchielli was among the most important Italian opera composers of the 19th century, second only to Verdi in the third quarter of the century.

Operas

The best known of the eleven operas written by Ponchielli is La Gioconda, with the famous Dance of the Hours from the opera a popular favourite.
