MEHUL, ETIENNE-NICOLAS  BIOGRAPHY

(1763 - 1817)

Méhul made his name as a composer in Paris on the eve of the Revolution, which he survived, later providing music for the new régime and in celebration of Napoleon. His three symphonies surviving in complete form, written in the first decade of the nineteenth century, show the influence of Mozart and of Beethoven.
