WEISS, SILVIUS LEOPOLD BIOGRAPHY(1686 - 1750)
Weiss was a leading lutenist in the time of J.S. Bach, whom he met during the former's visit to Leipzig and later in Dresden, where Weiss was a member of the court chapel. He wrote a considerable quantity of music for the lute.
Lute Music
Weiss left some six hundred compositions for lute, described as Sonatas and Partitas. These form a major part of the repertoire of the instrument.
