MALIPIERO, GIAN FRANCESCO BIOGRAPHY(1882 - 1973)
The Italian composer and musicologist Gian Francesco Malipiero is well known for his editions of the music of Monteverdi and Vivaldi. Prolific enough as an original composer, he also provided arrangements of music by earlier composers, of which his Vivaldiana is one example. Two sets of Invenzioni (Inventions), the second with the appealing descriptive title La festa degli indolenti (The Feast of the Indolent) introduce music of his own, a sample of a vast range of orchestral and operatic compositions.
