ACHRON, JOSEPH BIOGRAPHY(1886 - 1943)
Lithuanian by birth, the violinist and composer Joseph Achron studied with
Auer and Lyadov at the St Petersburg Conservatory, and had an earlier career
in Russia, before emigrating to the United States in 1925. Two years later he
gave the premire of his Violin Concerto No.1 with the Boston Symphony
Orchestra. His Golem Suite was given in Venice in 1932 at the ISCM festival.
In 1934 he moved from New York to Hollywood, where he wrote music for films,
while continuing his career as a violinist. His compositions include three violin
concertos and some works of Jewish inspiration.
