GREVILLIUS, NILS

A native of Stockholm, the Swedish conductor Nils Grevillius was trained as a violinist and from 1911 to 1914 was leader of the Stockholm Royal Opera Orchestra. After a study of conducting and experience in Stockholm, in 1924 he became conductor of the Royal Orchestra, with the title of court musical director from 1931, a position he held until 1953. He played an important part in the musical life of Sweden as a conductor in the concert-hall, and in the theatre for ballet and opera. He died in 1970.
