YAN, HUICHANG Yan Huichang
The Chinese conductor and composer Yan Huichang was born in
Shanxi in 1954 and studied at the Xian Conservatory Middle School and the Shanghai
Conservatory, graduating from the latter in 1983, when he was appointed Principal
Conductor and Artistic Director of the Central Chinese Orchestra, an ensemble
of traditional Chinese instruments. His subsequent career has involved him in
the direction of both Chinese and Western instrument orchestras. As a composer
Yan Huichang has won considerable success with a number of award-winning works
for Chinese instruments.
