KINGSTON, MAJOR GEOFFREY

Since 1997 Major Geoffrey Kingston has been Director of Music, Royal Artillery. Beginning his career as a French-horn player, he joined the Staffordshire Regiment in 1964 and studied at the Royal Military School of Music. After military service abroad, he returned in 1976 to take a Student Bandmaster course, which he completed three years later, winning a number of prizes, including the Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. He served as Regimental Bandmaster of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and as bandmaster at the Prince of Wales Depot, before, in 1987, returning to the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall as School Bandmaster. Commissioned in 1988 into the King's Own Royal Border Regiment, he held various positions in the re-organization of army music before taking his present appointment. In May 2000 he weill assume the appointment of Principal Director of Music (Army).
