PEIRE, PATRICK A graduate of the Conservatoires of Ghent and Brussels, Patrick Peire also has degrees in psychology and
musicology. He is the chief conductor of the Collegium Instrumentale Brugense, which he founded thirty years ago
with the specific aim of keeping the original style and character of each piece of music, although using modern
instruments. As a musicologist he often searches through archives in order to find lesser known music. He lectures
at the Music Colleges of Higher Education in Ghent and Leuven, and combines this with giving chamber music master-classes and concerts. Besides conducting the Collegium and the Capella Brugensis, his own chamber
chorus, he has also conducted the New Flemish Symphony Orchestra for eight years, allowing him to explore the
symphonic repertoire. The quality of his musicianship is such that he is now much in demand as a guest conductor
of other orchestras, both nationally and internationally.
