Equivoco stravagante, L' (The Strange Misunderstanding)
Gioachino Rossini. Dramma giocoso in two acts. 1811.
Libretto by Gaetano Gasbarri.
First performance at the Teatro del Corso, Bologna, on 26th October 1811.
Rossini's first larger scale opera, L'equivoco stravagante is based on a plot of love intrigue in
which the thick-witted Buralicchio, a basso buffo, is put off marriage with the lively Ernestina,
largely through slander spread about her by her lover Ermanno, with whom she is finally united.
