BERGONZI QUARTET Bergonzi String Quartet
The Bergonzi quartet was formed in 1994 at the University of
Miami School of Music in Coral Gables, Florida. Each member of the ensemble
performed in successful string quartets prior to that time. Their blend of experience
and talent was an immediate success. In their first year of existence, the Bergonzi
was named Quartet-in-Residence at the prestigious Society of the Four Arts in
Palm Beach with a mandate to present all the string quartets of Ludwig van Beethoven,
a critically successful project which spanned three seasons.
The Bergonzi has since performed each year in the international
Festival Miami and the Friends of Chamber Music series in Coral Gables, a series
which also regularly presents the Guarneri, Tokyo, Emerson and American Quartets.
They have also toured the Netherlands and Italy and present concerts throughout
the United States. The collective experience of the Bergonzi is extensive. Members
have performed in virtually every major in the world with concerts throughout
Europe, Japan, Korea, South America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and
the United Kingdom. The Bergonzi can boast a collective discography of 22 CDs
and records, a Prix du Disque and Peabody Award. In addition to their residency
at the University of Miami, members have held posts at many major institutions
including Harvard, University of Michigan, Interlochen and Suny Buffalo. During
the summers, the Bergonzi four have taught and performed at the Hot Springs
Music Festival in Arkansas, the Franciscan Chamber Players Festival in Toledo,
and the Pine Mountain Music Festival in Houghton and Iron Mountain, Michigan.
