ENSEMBLE 24 Ensemble 24 grew out of discussions in 1995 for a desire to expand opportunities for performing chamber music in Australia, focusing on rarely heard repertoire. In establishing Ensemble 24, director Peter Morrison has brought together some of the best musicians from around the country, all having performed nationally and internationally as chamber musicians and soloists. In its six-year existence, Ensemble 24 has performed in all the major Australian capital cities for Musica Viva Australia, as well as in Taipei (1996), Bangkok (2000), and throughout Vietnam (2000) where the group presented both master-classes and concerts. Performances elsewhere in Australia have included the Sydney Festival (2001), Canberra Chamber Music Festival (1997 and 2000), live radio broadcasts for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and annual subscription series in and around Sydney. Ensemble 24s activities also spread to radio plays and theatre pieces, including the highly acclaimed presentation of Tan Duns theatre piece Ghost Opera in 1998.
